Site first. Payment second.
Most web designers ask you to pay before you’ve seen anything. We do it the other way round: you see the finished thing first, then decide. Here is every step, in order.
The front. Your business named, your finished site shown, and the two people who built it.
The back. A note, a phone number, and your address. That’s the whole thing.
Why a postcard, and not an email?
Because a cold email from someone claiming to have built you a website is indistinguishable from a scam, and it should be. A postcard costs us real money and real effort to send. It’s easy to throw away if you’re not interested, and it doesn’t sit in your inbox nagging you.
It’s also honest about the order of things: we did the work first, and now we’re asking. Not the other way around.
That’s our faces on the card, next to the site we built you. If it turns out to be rubbish, you know exactly who to ring.
The five steps, in full
Nothing here happens behind your back, and nothing costs you anything until step four.
We find your business and do the homework
We look for local businesses whose website is dated, broken, or missing. Before any layout decision is made we read your reviews, look at your photos, check what your competitors are doing, and work out what a customer needs from your site: the menu, the booking link, the opening hours, the phone number.
We build the real thing, not a mock-up
A complete, working website using your own photography and your own reviews. No AI-generated images, and no template with your name pasted into it. If we can’t build something we’d be proud of, we don’t send the postcard.
A postcard lands, and you look
Scan the QR code and you’re on your finished site. There’s nothing to sign up for and no email to hand over. Show it to your partner, your staff, your accountant. Sleep on it. There’s no rush.
You decide: yes or no
If you want it, it’s $500 + GST, once. That includes one round of changes: swap a photo, fix the hours, reword the bit about your Sunday roast. If you don’t want it, there’s no invoice and no hard sell. We may get in touch once to check the postcard reached you. Tell us no and you’ll never hear from us again.
It goes online
To be online, every website needs two more things, and we’d rather tell you now than surprise you later.
A web address, like yourbusiness.co.nz. Already have one? We use it. If not, we’ll find one that fits and buy it for you at cost, once you’ve approved the name and the price. It’s yours, and we renew it each year at cost.
Hosting, which is what keeps your site online, day and night. We can do it for $30 + GST a month, or you can use any hosting company you like. Either way, the website is yours.
No obligation. No hard sell. We may check in once. Tell us it’s not for you and we take the demo down, and that’s the end of it.
It starts with getting to know your business
Every site is built around one business. Before anything is designed, we gather what your customers can already see about you.
Your Google listing
Your hours, phone number and address, what you offer, and the things customers ask about before they visit, like parking, payment options and accessibility.
Your reviews
What your customers praise, in their own words, and what matters most to them when they choose you.
Your photos
From your Google listing and your current website. Your own photos always come first, because a real photo of your business sells it better than anything else.
Your menu, services or prices
Wherever you’ve published them, so customers can see what you do and what it costs without having to ring and ask.
Your social pages and booking links
So your new site connects to everywhere your customers already find you.
Your local competition
What similar businesses near you show online, and where you have the chance to stand out.
All of it is already public. Nothing is bought from data companies, and nothing is taken from anywhere private.
The questions every site has to answer
A good website isn’t about looking nice. It’s about answering the right questions for the right customer.
What does a customer need in the first few seconds?
Usually it’s whether you’re open, where you are, and how to get in touch. That goes on the very first screen of a phone, one tap away.
How do people choose a business like yours?
People pick a café, a builder and a hair salon for very different reasons. So each trade gets a different kind of site, leading with what that customer is looking for.
What makes you different?
Your strengths come from what your customers actually say about you, and from facts people can check, not from generic claims.
What should it sound like?
The words are written as your business, in a tone that matches how you and your customers talk. No filler like “we pride ourselves on quality service”.
What should it look like?
Colours are taken from your logo or your own photos, so the site looks like your business and nobody else’s.
What can it do that your Google listing can’t?
Explain what you do, show what it costs, and tell people what to expect, so they arrive ready to buy.
Rules that don’t bend
Your site represents your business, so it has to be honest.
Nothing made up
We never invent opening hours, prices, awards, history or reviews. Reviews are quoted word for word.
Prices only if you’ve published them
If your prices aren’t public, they don’t go on the site until you tell us what they are.
No AI-generated images
Your own photos come first. If there aren’t enough, we use a properly licensed photo that suits your business.
Private until you say yes
Your site is hidden from Google while you decide. If you say no, we take it down.
The checks before you see it
Every site has to pass all of these before a postcard is sent.
Easy to read
Text and background colours meet international accessibility standards, so your site is easy to read for everyone, including people with poor eyesight.
Works properly on a phone
Every site is tested at phone and computer sizes. Nothing spills off the side, buttons are big enough for a thumb, and text is big enough to read without zooming.
Nothing broken
No broken links, no missing photos, and no leftover placeholder text.
The essentials are there
Tap to call, directions, opening hours, and whatever else your kind of business needs.
A person reviews and approves every site, and every postcard, before anything goes out. If it isn’t good enough to put our names to, it doesn’t get sent.
That’s the thinking behind every site. The exact way we do it is the part we’ve worked hardest on, so we keep the finer details to ourselves. The best way to judge it is to look at the results.
The awkward parts, said out loud
“You built something for my business without asking.” True. Everything we used (your name, your public photos, your reviews) is already visible to anyone who searches for you. We treat the demo as yours from the start: it’s not indexed, not advertised, and if you tell us to delete it, we delete it that day.
“Why is it so cheap?” Because we’ve taken the sales meetings, the endless revision rounds, and the discovery calls out of the process. The craft goes into the site, not into winning the job. The $500 reflects what’s actually left: the build.
“What happens to my data?” We don’t sell it, share it, or add you to a mailing list. We may get in touch once about the site we built you. Tell us no and we never contact you again.
